Micro Mirror Arrays & Micro Shutter Arrays
The patented concept enables light steering, blocking, and variation. Since the structures are in “micro” size, they are not visible to the bare eye and will not impair the view through glass.
Our wish is to redefine the daylight use in window application. These micro mirrors allow more than shading function—they "guide" the daylight!
Currently we focus on smart glass and laser safety goggles.

Application of micro mirror arrays in smart glass was successfully implemented in a small scale to demonstrate the lighting ambient control.
Since then, our path towards commercialization is focused on the upscaling of the micro mirror array fabrication for smart window application.
Our current module size of 128cm x 71cm, intended for window size of about 140cm x 80cm, proved the scalability and the potential transition towards mass production.
Commercialization from R&D
Nanoscale Glasstec GmbH was founded in October 2019 on the research and development works conducted at the Institute of Nanostructure Technologies and Analytics (INA) from University of Kassel, headed by Prof. Dr. Hillmer, and the subsequent incubation program financed by German Federal Ministry of Education and Research.
Our focus is to scale-up, commercialize and provide efficient solutions in term of cost, energy consumption, and overall human well-being through implementation of our patented micro mirror and shutter arrays.
